Abstract
The interaction between painting and photography found expression in the publication of lithographically illustrated printed journals in nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century Iran. Sharaf</i> and Sharāfat</i> were two journals that were published intermittently between 1882 and 1903. As these journals enjoyed the patronage of the royal court, the most renowned calligraphers, painters and photographers collaborated on their publication. By researching archives in Iran, the authors have matched thirty-six lithographic images with their corresponding photographs; the painters and photographers have also been identified.
