Abstract

Contemporary paleontology uses the data of many sciences, and, in turn, the results of paleontological research are included in multidisciplinary studies on a variety of natural science problems, from the origin of life to exobiological issues. For a long time, paleontology developed by incorporating achievements and methods of other disciplines and becoming more and more called-for by different research areas. Hence, we can now speak about integrative paleontology, a science about the development of the biosphere, which includes historical description of paleobiodiversity, studies of the evolution of the organic world and geobiological systems, and research on bacteriomorphic microfossils in meteorites. An important role in the global development of paleontology is played by Russian research institutions, primarily by the Borisyak Paleontological Institute, RAS, which celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2010.
