Abstract
The flow characteristics of blends of coarse (-8 US mesh) and fine (-200 US mesh) coal have been investigated. The objective was to evaluate handling problems that might be encountered in the addition of material such as recovered pond fines to power-plant feeds, etc. The results indicate that conditions necessary to ensure mass flow are not significantly affected by blending. However, the tendency for blockages to occur in converging hoppers is increased when fines are added to coarse coal. Conversely, fine coal handling can be facilitated by the addition of small quantities of coarse material.
