Abstract

This paper describes local measurements of powder bed displacement in an inclined vessel. The powder bed displacement was induced by an impact stress applied at the bottom of the vessel by an air hammer. Three kinds of powders were used to investigate the dependency of the displacement on the intensity of the impact stress, the bed height and the angle of vessel inclination. It has been found that, given the angle of inclination, there occurs a transition at a certain bed height, above which the magnitude of the displacement either increases or decreases drastically depending on the intrinsic properties of the powders. The relationship between the transition and powder property is discussed.
