Abstract

This paper examines sources of energy and power generation that are alternative to coal and other fossil fuel sources, upon which the world has greatly depended for decades. Briefly treating wind, solar, and other alternative energy sources, the advantages and disadvantages of each are documented. The conclusion is that much energy conservation, and also paths to the reduction of greenhouse gases, can come from simple changes in the methods used to operate, reconfigure, and troubleshoot process plants and other methods for energy conversion.
