Abstract
Nineteen species, in 2 subgenera, are recognized in the genus Cotinis Burmeister, ranging from the United States through Central America to northern South America. These are keyed, described, and illustrated, and their distributions and relationships are discussed. Ten specific, 10 subspecific, and 13 varietal names are placed in new synonymy. C. (Cotinis) fuscopicea from Mexico and Guatemala, and C. (CRINIFLAVA) boylei from Texas, are new taxa. C. terminata (Gory & Percheron), C. smaragdinea (Gory & Percheron), and C. nitidicollis Moser are transferred from Cotinis to Heterocotinis Martinez, and C. amazonica Thomson from Cotinis to Allorhina Burmeister.
