Abstract

Low kilovoltage radiography of western spruce budworm, Choristoneura occidentalis Freeman (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), pupal cases makes possible identification of normal budworm pupae and those containing Hymenoptera and Diptera parasites. The method, filming techniques, and radiographic-anatomic correlation are described. Kodak M and MA-2 film were equal in necessary image detail for identification purposes, but the M film did provide a slightly sharper and clearer image than MA-2 film. Polaroid P/N 55 film did not provide images adequate for identification.
