Abstract
Characterization of various stages of development (immatures and adults) and exoskeletal fragments of adult specimens of seven cockroach species by pyrolysis-gas chromatography (PGC) showed that species-specific peaks or peak groups are not influenced by these biological parameters. Species differentiation was easily accomplished for all samples analyzed, with only slight changes in peak intensities noted in pyrograms within a species. These data indicate that PGC may be a precise and accurate method for identifying insect exoskeletal tissue.
