Abstract
The right colleterial gland of female Blattodea and Mantodea and the accessory glands/lateral oviducts of Acridoidea were found to produce -glucosidase. A comparable situation exists in the initial steps of sclerotization of oothecae in the three groups studied. It is suggested that a low oxygen concentration in the accessory gland/oviduct of Acridoidea may inhibit sclerotization until the substances come out of the insect.
