Abstract

An experimental tower was used to test the effects of different gradients of light and temperature on the vertical distribution of three species of planktonic, inshore copepods. The three species used in the experimental tests were Acartia tonsa Dana, 1849, Paracalanus parvus (Claus, 1863), and Calanopia americana Dahl, 1894. Data indicated an optimum temperature range, outside of which there is a correlation between the occurrence of copepod concentrations and illumination values. Within the median temperature range there is little correlation of concentration with illumination.
