Abstract
Low molecular weight aldehydes and ketones have been detected and measured in sea water. Acetone occurs more consistently and, on the average, in larger amounts than other constituents; 2-butanone and butyraldehyde follow in order. Traces of other compounds have been observed but not identified. A pattern of stratification at the two stations sampled is indicated by the analysis, but a relatively large concentration of acetone at 50 meters depth is consistent for the two.
