Abstract
Treatment regimens used for infectious ocular diseases by community- based and academic ophthalmologists were compared. A mail survey asked about antimicrobial choices for serious keratitis, conjunctivitis, and blepharitis; presurgical and postsurgical prophylaxis; use of antibiotics and steroids for treatment of acute adenovirus conjunctivitis; and use of chloramphenicol. Responses were returned by 177 community-based and 84 academic ophthalmologists. Community ophthalmologists generally paralleled academic ophthalmologists in their treatment choices.
