Abstract

Question: In patients with a morgagnian cataract, what methods do you use to increase the safety and predictability of capsulorhexis and phacoemulsification? Answer: Morgagnian cataracts can present unique surgical challenges; however, the procedure is not extraordinarily difficult when there is good visualization of the capsule. In the past, I have used techniques, such as painting the capsule with fluorescein dye and increasing illumination with a light pipe, to improve contrast of the capsule against the cataract. Recently, I have found the following to be a simpler approach:
