Abstract
Major causes of worldwide blindness include cataract, trachoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, onchocerciasis, xerophthalmia, and glaucoma. The future of prevention of blindness is in education. Education of eye care personnel such as with a free, peer-reviewed Internet textbook of ophthalmology (www. emedicine.com) offers up-to-date accessible information.
