Abstract
This study investigated whether the degree of diabetic retinopathy correlates with degree of sensorineural hearing loss. Seventy-five diabetic patients and 45 sex- and age-matched healthy controls were evaluated audiologically. Patients were classified into groups by severity of retinopathy: group 1 (n=28), no retinopathy, group 2 (n=28), background retinopathy; and group 3 (n=28), proliferative or end-stage retinopathy. Diabetics had a statistically significant difference at all frequencies of hearing loss, as compared with controls.
