Abstract

The Cubuk, Karatas and Bayindir bridges are new steel orthotropic bridges on the peripheral motorway around Ankara, Turkey. The bridges carry traffic of four lanes in each direction. The Cubuk and Bayindir bridges cross reservoirs, each with a main span of 147 m, with total crossing lengths of 297 and 403 m respectively; Karatas Bridge, with a main span of 105 m, crosses a valley and has a total length of 592 m. This paper covers the design of the bridges, including the selection of the structural form and construction.
