Abstract
Forty-five pure and mixed stands of Quercus alba, L. were sampled in the Brown Loam area to determine site quality on the basis of permanent, mappable soil and topographic features. The technique of soil-site investigation employed mathematical justification for various transformations and analytical procedures. Workable prediction formulas were developed from the plot data, which were processed through the IBM 704 program. Factors showing the best correlation were: percent clay in the surface soil, depth to the least permeable horizon, 15 atmosphere tension value of the least permeable horizon, and position on slope.
