Abstract

The many decades ordinarily required for a tree-breeding program do not seem necessary for progress in securing disease resistance in some forest trees. The application of recent ideas and techniques from widely scattered sources gives promise of yielding, within a few years, white pine with tested resistance against blister rust. Whether the writers succeed or fail with the particular project described in this paper, the methods they have adapted for these studies promise improvements for reforestation.
