Abstract
The forest economist is qualified to guide the management of a basic wood-using industry into the most profitable (or least unprofitable) use of its forest resources. Some of the many ways in which he can help improve the returns from forest properties are described in this article. In a period of depressed economic conditions his services are needed even more than in a boom.
