Abstract

The harvest of forest management can be foretold only by a knowledge of the productivity of the land. The soil factors affecting the growth of agricultural crops are well understood but the influence of soil properties on the growth of forest stands is obscure. This article describes a method for estimating the site quality of loblolly pine lands of the southeastern coastal plain region in terms of the permanent features of the soil profile.
