Abstract

In north Mississippi mulching is worthwhile when planting loblolly pine to stabilize bare gully slopes. On such highly erosive exposures mulch immobilizes soil around individual seedlings. Spot-mulching trees to a radius of 9 inches is as effective as broadcast applications.
