Abstract

For more than 90 years, the Keren Kayemeth Leisrael (KKL) has undertaken afforestation activities in Israel. Tree planting has played a pivotal role in renewing Israel's battered Mediterranean landscape, enhancing not only the country's physical development but also its social development by providing employment, and recreational, educational, and commodity services. The future of Israel's forest resources is a subject of continuing debate in Israeli society, one mirroring a broader dialogue about the society's future and the land on which it lives.
