Abstract

A mild hydrothermal route for preparing highly photocatalytic activity (I2)n sensitized and I(V) doped TiO2 supported on SiO2 (ITS) materials was developed. The ITS was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area, TG-DTA, X-ray diffraction, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra and transmission electron microscopy. Concentration of TiO2 in the ITS was 287.8 mg/g. The presence of iodine and hydrogen iodate in the ITS was established through the results of XRD and XPS. ITS is very stable under 750 K and shows a drastic photoabsorption in the range of wavelength from 384 to 700 nm for the iodine sensitization. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the photocatalytic oxidation of phenol under dysprosium lamp light illumination. ITS exhibited highly photocatalytic activity.
