Abstract

In a reactor with nozzle-plate electrode structure, we used a DC high-voltage generator to produce corona electric field between nozzles and plate electrode. When water vapor and ammonia were injected from nozzles, they were activated to produce hydroxyl and ammonia radicals to oxidize SO2 by ion-molecule reactions and the final byproducts were mainly ammonia sulfate. In this paper, corona discharge characteristics of nozzle-plate electrode, OH radical diagnosis by optical emissive spectrogram, and desulphurization efficiency were investigated. The experiments demonstrated that water vapor and ammonia activation method had effect on removing SO2 and could make some references for desulphurization by non-thermal plasma process.
