Abstract
Nanoelectronics, the next great change in product technology, offers the potential to revolutionize the electronics industry, spawn new product families, and change the way products are designed and manufactured. To accomplish this, product quality must be kept at levels heretofore unattainable. Using a system dynamics approach, this article examines the available cadre of measurement and control techniques for applicability. Changes in the way that the tools are used and the results interpreted are required. It will also be necessary to develop a new family of instrumentation that will allow real-time feedback and almost instantaneous correction to process elements.
