Abstract

New Accreditation Participation Requirement (APR) APR.09.04.01 becomes effective January 1, 2012. This requirement relates to Immediate Threat to Health or Safety (ITHS). An ITHS situation is a circumstance or set of circumstances that is found during an organization's on-site survey that potentially could have serious adverse effects on the health or safety of patients. The Joint Commission created the new APR to better capture information about ITHS in the Web-based survey tool that surveyors use.
