Abstract

A new species of the nematode genus Heterorhabditis was found during a survey of soil entomopathogenic nematodes near Seaside, Oregon. Heterorhabditis marelatus n. sp. differs from other species of Heterorhabditis by the length of infective juvenile and gubernaculum, and the shape of spicules, bursa, and genital papillae. Heterorhabditis marelatus n. sp. has distinct random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fragments, with a minimal RAPD polymorphism frequency of 0.85 to other Heterorhabditis species examined.
