Abstract
This forum paper, based on an invited background paper on language comprehension and augmentative communication for the NIDRR Consensus Validation Conference on Augmentative Communication, considers the role of language comprehension in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) acquisition and use. General directions for research and practice are suggested.
