Abstract

Mammalian fibroblasts were incubated for four days at 37°C under hypoxic conditions. After one day the cells reached a plateau-phase in growth. After replating under aerobic conditions, various properties of the cells were investigated. It was found that they had accumulated in a pre-DNA-synthetic state. However, growth curves, DNA-synthesis data, and radiation-survival curves indicated that these cells behaved like an asynchronous population.
