Abstract

Explains why managing national information resources in the agricultural sector has taken on new meaning in the last few years. Not only is the nature of information resources changing as a result of new information technologies, but the agricultural sector itself is undergoing a radical transition as it moves into the information age. Fierce competition in the marketplace, sophisticated technology and changing consumer demands make access to accurate, comprehensive and timely information critical. Both the changing nature of information and the changes in the business of agriculture are having a profound affect on the management of the programmes and services at the National Agricultural Library (NAL). Describes NAL and its variety of information services. Outlines its national and international relationships within the agricultural community and considers its attempts to improve access to agricultural information through strong co-operation. Looks briefly at a vision of NAL's future.
