Abstract
The European species of the Helochares lividus-group are examined, and it is found to include three species, H. lividus Forst., H. punctatus Sharp, and H. obscurus Müll.; thus, punctatus is considered a distinct species, and not as previously, synonymous with obscurus. Differences in morphology, distribution and choice of habitat are discussed. The relevant type material is examined.
