Abstract
The history of the genus Lomatia Meigen is reviewed in relation to the status of the Afrotropical species. A phylogenetic analysis of the Afrotropical and Palaearctic genera of Lomatiinae demonstrates that the Afrotropical species of Lomatia should be transferred to a new genus, Notolomatia gen. n. A key is given to these genera along with notes including short diagnoses, distribution and species contained in them. The synonymy of L. graeca Paramonov with L. luchesis is established. The zoogeography of the Lomatiinae is discussed in relation to the origin of the Palaearctic genera.
