Abstract
In the recent past, suicide prevention efforts were focused on the built environment in behavioral health care and other facilities. Now, suicide prevention efforts place more emphasis on balancing a suicide-safe built environment with an environment that is conducive to therapy and reflects sensitivity to patient rights. This article brings readers up to date on the latest suicide-safe solutions, including rethinking the design of the furnishings themselves and the materials used to make them.
