Abstract

Phosphate glasses have relatively poor hydrophobicity which hinder their applications especially in heavily moist conditions. The present paper presents a way of improving hydrophobicity by surface coating of hydrogencontaining methyl silicone oil (HMSO). The glasses were compared before and after surface coating followed by different treatment conditions on the basis of their water repellency and transmittance of the visible light of samples. Infrared spectra were collected for HMSO coated specimens before and after heat treatment to explain the effect on hydrophobicity of glasses.
