Abstract

Complex band shapes in the infrared spectra of crystalline films will, in general, be different for different orientations of the sample when examined in polarized radiation. Absorbance subtraction of these differently polarized spectra can lead to the resolution of the individual bands in the complex band profile. Weak shoulders accompanying strong bands and weak features buried under stronger bands can be examined by this technique. This method can also be used to enhance the resolution in the spectrum effectively.
