Abstract

In December 1998 Valley Pride Pack installed the AnoxKaldnes Moving Bed® Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) process at its slaughterhouse located in Norwalk, Wisconsin to replace the chemical pre-treatment system and increase the capacity of the wastewater treatment system. For over 16 years the AnoxKaldnes MBBR has demonstrated its performance and stability for both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.The two-stage MBBR process train is a high rate aerobic biological process that achieves carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal utilizing the AnoxKaldnes K1 type biomedia. The MBBR acts as a roughing reactor ahead of the existing activated sludge process. The result is increased treatment capacity, increased volume of water discharged to the nearby creek and minimized amount of wastewater being hauled to the publicly-owned treatment works (POTWs).
