Abstract

This paper analyses the effects of varying air-fuel ratio on the performance of a theoretical Diesel cycle under a temperature restriction as maximum. Amount of heat addition at constant pressure is defined as a function of fuel's energy with utilising the combustion efficiency. The amount of released energy into the cylinder restricts the compression ratio. Relations between the combustion efficiency and compression ratio and also their limitations are explained. Variation of the compression ratio and combustion efficiency making the work output to maximise are presented. Utilising the combustion efficiency is found to be more useful to realise the cycle feasibility.
