Abstract
The macrophytic vegetation of seven aquatic ecosystems of Epirus (NW Greece), including six lakes and one marsh, was phytosociologically studied, from 1992 to 1995, following the Braun-Blanquet method. Thirty-six plant communities were found, many of which reported for the first time from Greece or the region of Epirus, respectively. Thirteen of these vegetation units, which are more interesting from a syntaxonomic and synchorological point of view, are briefly described, vouchered by phytosociological tables, and compared with similar communities in other countries of Europe. Habitat requirements of the associations found are elucidated by field measurements and chemical analyses of relevant hydrochemical factors.
