Abstract
Results are presented of experiments on the automatic recognition of isolated words. The experiments were performed in conditions favouring evidence of the rô;le of the room and avoiding in particular pronunciation of recognizable words in the immediate neighbourhood of the microphone. In order to be able to vary at will the two parameters describing the transmission of speech in a room (the reverberation time and the speaker-microphone distance) an artificial attenuation was introduced into the speech signal. The results obtained were compared with those from subjective intelligibility tests in rooms.
