Abstract
This paper presents a “random walk”-model for the temporal decay of sound energy in the infinite flat room with diffusely reflecting walls. Depending on the assumed scattering characteristics of the walls, slightly differing expressions for the decay are obtained. They have in common that the level decay is governed by three terms: a linear term, which depends on the wall absorption, and two additional terms with opposite curvature; one of them depends on the measuring distance. The practical consequences of this fact are briefly discussed.
