Abstract

The subject of the present paper is the mathematical modelling of piezoelectric ultrasound probes and the precise estimation of the required parameters of the model based on the measured electrical behaviour of a real probe. The knowledge of the elastic, piezoelectric and dielectric parameters of the probe is crucial for the match between the simulated behaviour of the mathematical model and the measured behaviour of the real probe. The employed deterministic estimation method of the nonlinear optimization based on the one-dimensional frequency domain model of the probe is very robust because of the exact calculation of the first differentiation. In addition to the optimum parameters of the model the estimation method yields a statistical measure for the reliability of the estimated parameters.
