Abstract
The initial steps of aluminum oxidation were studied by scanning tunnel microscopy (STM). A procedure was proposed and implemented for obtaining information on the migration of atoms formed by dissociative adsorption from the measurement of distances between adsorbed atoms visible in STM images.
