Abstract

Novel aminoamide calix[4]resorcinarenes with hydrophobic groups of various lengths (methyl group, compounds 1 and 2, and undecyl, compounds 3 and 4) and various peripheral groups (NH2 group, compounds 1 and 3, and NMe2, compounds 2 and 4) were synthesized. Surface activity and self-organization of compounds 2, 3, and 4 in aqueous solutions were studied (compound 1 is insoluble in neutral aqueous solution); critical micellization concentrations of these compounds were determined. It was found that compound 3 is an efficient gelator in neutral aqueous solutions. Temperatures of gel–solution transition were determined in relation to the concentration of compound 3. IR spectroscopy data, along with the data on viscometry and tensiometry, allowed us to suggest the qualitative model of gel structure formation.
