Abstract

The constitution and structure of the C-Cr-Fe and C-Fe-Mn systems are reviewed. A complete liquidus projection is proposed for each system indicating that there are six ternary invariant reactions involving the liquid phase in each. Solidphase equilibria are represented by isothermal sections from 1150 to 600°C and give both an overall picture of each system and accurate data for solubility in the austenite phase in the Fe corner. A reaction sequence is given for each system; gaps in the knowledge of solid-state equilibria are found, particularly for the C-Fe-Mn system.
