Abstract
Since British Steel and its Dutch equivalent Koninklijke Hoogovens merged in October 1999 to form Corus, the R&D organisation of the new company has been restructured and streamlined to make it fit to face the technological challenges of the future in a global competitive environment. Although Corus business units remain its main focus, part of its vast expertise in metallurgy, metal production and metals applications is now also being made available to interested parties outside Corus.
