Abstract

An alloy based on NiAl has been deformed under isothermal conditions, to investigate the possibility of hot working as a processing route for such materials. Deformation has been shown to occur largely via dynamic recovery, although some evidence of recrystallisation has been noted. Material properties (strain rate sensitivity, activation energy of deformation, etc.) have been calculated and used in a constitutive algorithm to model successfully the forging behaviour of this material under all the conditions examined here.
