Abstract
Sintered parts can be given almost any finishing treatment used in conventional manufacturing techniques for wrought materials, provided suitable precautions are taken to mitigate the effect of porosity. Some typical treatments that are in use to extend the design capabilities of PM technology or to deliver parts ready for assembly are described. Some practical examples are given from the fields of joining, local surface densification, and machining. PM/0509
