Abstract
The present study investigates the microstructure, mechanical properties and wear resistance at high temperature of MoZrAlSiN coating on an AISI 1045 substrate. The coatings were characterised by SEM and X-ray diffraction. Tribological behaviour of the coatings was determined by ball on disc wear tests without lubrication. The effect of temperature was investigated for the coated discs at temperatures of 25 ° C, 300 ° C and 500 ° C. The values of the friction coefficient increased with temperature achieving aver. age values as high as 0 9 to 1. The coating deposition has a beneficial effect on the wear performance of the AISI 1045 steel at any tested temperature, contributing to a substantial decrease in the wear volume value. The wear mechanisms are discussed and related to changes in the dynamic friction coefficient values and the corresponding topographical analysis of the worn surface.
