Abstract
Detailed knowledge of the astrogeodetic geoid in Southern Africa is presently lacking. Asmoother representation of this geoid may be obtained by a suitable transformation of existingsatellite /gravimetric geoids. Of these, the most suitable is the Goddard Space Flight Centregeoid, which, referred to the Cape Datum, has an accuracy of about 5 metres.
