Abstract
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to consider the development of drug education and its evaluation in England over the last 20 years. Design/methodology/approach - Outlines key developments. Findings - Most of the approaches to drug education which have been tried have failed to change young people's drug-related behaviour, but there is reason to feel optimistic about more informed, evidence based, multi-component approaches, such as the English "Blueprint" programme. Originality/value - Provides an overview of drug education and its evaluation, so is therefore useful for policy makers and practitioners.
